Mbwana Alliy is the founder and managing partner at Savannah Fund, an Africa focused Technology Venture Capital fund that runs both an accelerator and seed  investments in e-commerce, gaming, education technology and social networking. In his work in building technology ecosystems and bridges between he has co-taught classes and spoken about Africa technology and entrepreneurship at University of Cape Town, Stanford University, University College London and Stanford Graduate School of Business.

He is passionate about product development and launching new ventures in technology. He is an experienced Product Manager within consumer web, enterprise Software & SaaS. He is originally from Tanzania and has lived and worked in 3 continents (USA, Europe and Africa). He has a Bachelor’s Engineering degree from Bristol University and an MBA from Stanford Graduate school of Business.

As of 2015, he has overseen 16 investments in Africa in 5 countries (Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana). These companies, most less than 2 years old have generated over 150 full time jobs and raised over $12 Million in venture financing.

Mbwana stared invested as an Associate and Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) for i/o ventures, a mentor based venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley where he assists with seed and early stage startup that are incubated as part of an accelerator program, he contributes in sourcing new deals and helping out in a variety of functions for the incubated startups inc. business development, product development, strategy and customer insights.

Apis Partners and Fintech in Africa

Mbwana is also an investment partner for Apis Partners, a partnership with Savannah Fund to focus on Financial Services (Fintech) investments in Africa. He also founded Afrikoin, one of the leading financial services innovation focused events on in Africa.

In addition, Mbwana leverages his international outlook by helping connecting Silicon Valley with emerging technology entrepreneur ecosystems inc. Tanzania, Kenya and Brazil in areas such mentoring, fundraising and technical assistance to Governments and groups interested in fostering technology entrepreneurship ecosystems. This has resulted in the founding of Mentor Bridge which connects Silicon Valley to emerging global technology startup ecosystems.

Mbwana was a member of Startup Tanzania- A government program started in 2011 designed to stimulate the entrepreneurial ecosystem through events and mentoring of the youth in Tanzania. He was also an advisor of Tanzania’s first incubator- Dar es Salaam Teknohama Business Incubator.
